Lucie is a public health consultant who works alongside businesses, government agencies, communities, and health care facilities to improve the overall health of populations. She is the co-founder of Bucci-Hepworth Health Services Inc. and the Society for Intelligence Management (SIM). Lucie studied political science before earning a master’s degree in public policy and public administration and a certificate in civil law. She worked as a research associate before becoming the senior manager of Immunize Canada, an organization focused on immunization, the elimination of cervical cancer and vaccine safety. She is active in several vaccine-related programs and projects, including representing the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) on the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and serving on the board of HPV Global Action.



What was your favorite science class?

My favorite class was physics in high school. I truly enjoyed exploring physical laws and asking questions.

Who is your science hero?

Dr. Joe Schwarcz is the Director of McGill University’s “Office for Science and Society.” Dr. Schwarcz used to host a science show on local television in Montreal, and he would invite youth to join his science experiments. He has become a leading proponent for science communication and debunking misinformation in Canada.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career related to science? 

I decided to shift into health sciences during graduate studies and my first job was in bioethics research.

Did anyone or anything in particular spark your interest in science? 

My family is predisposed to several genetic conditions, and I wanted to know why and where they originated. My initial curiosity led me into bioethics, then health services research, new therapeutic discoveries in vaccines, genome mapping and health policy.

What advice do you have for students interested in a STEM career? 

Don’t limit yourself and go with the flow. There is so much in this world to discover, and science gives you the tools to explore. 

What is your favorite part of your job? 

I have the privilege to work with incredibly talented, smart and creative people. That is by far the best part of my job. 

What current scientific discovery or project are you most excited about? 

I am very excited about the Society for Intelligence Management (SIM). It is a new international society that encourages critical thinking and international collaboration in the management of evidence to promote trustworthy information environments.
